Open Day in Galilee House
We held an Open Day in Galilee House (red brick building beside Church car park) for our parishioners between 10.30am and 12.30pm. The purpose was to create awareness about Galilee House where we have 4 rooms (including a kitchen) on the ground floor and to give our parishioners an opportunity to come up with ideas on how best we can use this space. We are one of the few places in Galway City which does not have a Community Centre. Many parishioners attended throughout this time range and completed a questionnaire to assist the parish office on how we should proceed. Please watch out for our weekly newsletter (yellow pages) for further updates. In meantime, enjoy our gallery. Thanks to all who supported the event. A huge thanks to Frank Keane who drove this event and to Frank, Sr Breege, Mary and Colette for getting the place ready.

Making St Brigid Crosses
Imbolg, also called St Brigid’s Day is an Irish traditional festival on 1st February. It marks the beginning of Spring and is the feast day of St Brigid, Ireland’s patroness saint. In Ireland, Brigid’s crosses are traditionally made on St Brigid’s Day. It usually consists of rushes woven into four-armed equilateral cross. They are hung over doors, windows and stables to welcome Brigid and for protection against fire, lightning, illness and evil spirits. Thanks to the Men’s Shed for sourcing the rushes and for showing our parishioners how they are made. A good turnout was evident in Galilee House today.

Parish Carol Service
Around 100 people attended the annual Parish Carol Service in our Church. There were 3 choirs, namely the Voice of Galway and the Parish Choir, both led by Lorna Salmon and the Parish Youth Choir led by Claire Hynes. It was an uplifting night of traditional festive music which was roundly applauded and enjoyed by those who attended the event.

Annual Friday Christmas Lunch
The parishioners who normally attend the Friday Luncheon club celebrated the annual Christmas Friday Lunch in Galilee House. A festive spread was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. A big thanks to all our volunteers who help out each Friday; to COPE who provide the weekly meals and to all our parishioners who attend the weekly event. Finally, a big thanks to Sr Breege and Frank Keane and to Orna and Rhona in the parish office who organise the weekly lunch.

Annual Christmas Parish Lunch
There was 65 parishioners who attended our annual Christmas Lunch in the Galway Bay Hotel. A festive lunch was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Music was provided by Scoil Ide, 3rd Class, led by their teacher Amanda Morris. They sang a number of Christmas favourites and were roundly applauded throughout. Well done to the winners of our spot prizes and a special big thanks to Michelle in Gourmet Tart who supplied the main Hamper prize. Many thanks to all the staff in Galway Bay Hotel who looked after us so well and to the Parish Office team and Fr Michael who organised the event. A big thanks to all the parishioners who attended, without your support we would not be able to hold this event.

Remembrance Prayer Service
Remembering all our parishioners who died during the year and all our deceased relatives and friends. During this lovely short service we pray and remember and as we leave, we plant a flower bulb and place a cross in our beautiful front garden plot.
The year’s community events were rounded off with the annual Parish Christmas Lunch held at the Galway Bay Hotel.

Strokestown Park House
We had a day trip to Strokestown Park House for our parishioners. Left Leisureland at 9am on Healy Coaches arriving at Strokestown just after 11am. The group enjoyed a self guided tour of the Famine Museum, access to the woodlands and gardens as well as a guided tour of Strokestown Park house. We enjoyed a fine lunch in the spacious and airy cafe, comprising of soup, array of sandwiches, mini desserts and tea/coffee. Bus departed after 3pm arriving back in Leisureland before 5.30pm. A great day out was had by all, historical and informative. The staff at Strokestown looked after us so well and a big thanks to them and to Paul Healy who drove the coach. Weather was a typical lovely dry Autumn day, unlike Salthill where it rained most of the day!!

Frank’s Birthday

Friday Lunch Club Christmas Lunch
The Friday Lunch Club had a joyous Christmas Celebration on Friday 6th December, with delicious meals provided by Community Catering Cope Galway. There was even a visit from Mrs Claus! Thanks to Cope and all the volunteers for their time and efforts with the Lunch Club this year.

A Christmas Swag-making workshop with Marian Colohan from the Galway Flower & Garden Society.
A group of parishioners enjoyed a fun morning of floral creativity making a seasonal decoration with guidance from a local flower arranging expert.

Rose of Tralee Makes Surprise Appearance at Friday Lunch
The 2024 International Rose of Tralee, New Zealand Rose Keely O’Grady, made a special appearance at the Friday Lunch on Friday, 15th November, to help serve meals and call bingo numbers. The event coincided with birthday celebrations for Sr Breege.

Theatre day trip to Dublin
A fabulous day out in Dublin was had when a parish group went to see Wizard Of Oz at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Wednesday, 5th June. We took the trian across to Dublin and enjoyed a two-course lunch at the Clayton Hotel prior to the show.

We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of sandwiches, sweet treats, tea & coffee; accompanied by live music enternainment on Wednesday, 8th May. The event was in the beautiful Seascape Room at the Galway Bay Hotel, overlooking the Prom.

Day Trip to Bunratty
The Salthill Men’s Shed kindly organised a bus to take a group of parishioners to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on Wednesday, 10th April. We walked around the castle and folk park and enjoyed lunch at the cafe.

Galway Hospice Coffee Morning
The Galway Hospice Coffee Morning fundraiser was held on Wednesday 12th September in the Conference Room. The event was celebrated with a wonderful spread of sweet treats plus a cup of tea and coffee for all who dropped by. Thank you to our volunteers who helped to host the event and provided their delicious baked goods! We are delighted to have raised more than €750 for Galway Hospice.

A flower arranging workshop with Marian Colohan from the Galway Flower & Garden Society. Participants made a beautiful table centrepiece.

Day Trip to Derryglad Heritage & Folk Museum
A group of parishioners enjoyed a wonderful day trip to Derryglad Heritage & Folk Museum followed by lunch at Fernhill Garden Centre on Wednesday, 18th October. The museum contained thousands of items of memorabilia depicting Irish country life over the last 100 years.

Farewell and Thank You Seamus
The Friday Luncheon group celebrated the last day on the job for Seamus Hynes, who was Parish Projects Coordinator for 2 years. The occasion was marked with a special cake shared by the lunch group and volunteers. Seamus was at the centre of many events in the parish over the last few years, organising the weekly lunch, day trips, coordinating the groups who use the parish properties and much more. Thank you Seamus for all your work!

Day Trip to Dublin
Our group consisted of 34 parishioners for our day trip to Dublin. Caught the 9.30am train to Heuston Station, walked across to the Ashling Hotel for a hearty meal where we were enterained by Julie Ann. The Bus brought us to Bord Gais Theater to see the fabulous musical The King and I and then back to Galway on the 6.30pm train. Click on the button below to view photos of the event.

Parish Party
On the Longest Day of the year, we held a ceremony in our Church in gratitude for all that is going on in keeping our parish alive. This was followed by finger food and beverages in a Marquee that we set up in the car park at the rear of the Church. Over 300 parishioners in attendance. Afternoon Tea Galway Bay Hotel
We held our final Afternoon Tea event in the Galway Bay Hotel before the Summer Break. 65 parishioners attended which made it a special occasion. The hotel staff looked after us very well providing an array of sandwiches, mini desserts and tea/coffee. The Parish Traditional Music group provided the musical entertainment. Salthill Community Garden
Community gardens throughout Galway City have been busy over the last few months, clearing, planning and starting the planting out of seedlings and seeds for what they hope will be another bumper year of produce. Community gardens are shared green spaces where members of local communities can come together and grow. Our Salthill Men’s Shed are members of the ‘Let’s get Galway Growing’ for our organic community garden in Gort Ard. This time of year, they are always looking for new volunteers to get involved. You do not have to be a member of the Men’s Shed, membership is open to anyone in our local parish with an interest in gardening. They are in the process of securing a Polytunnel, sponsored by Galway City Council and now are actively seeking gardeners, both make and female, with an additional focus this year of growing flowers. If you are interested, please leave your name and contact number with our Parish Office.

Afternoon Tea
Almost 75 parishioners attended our Afternoon Tea in the Seascape Lounge in Galway Bay Hotel. A big thanks to the hotel staff who provided a tasty array of sandwiches, tea/coffee and mini desserts. Music was provided by our local parish traditional music group who entertained us so well throughout the afternoon. The setting was fantastic and a great time was had by all. Happy Birthday Maureen
On Friday, 31st March, the Friday Luncheon Club celebrated Maureen O’Donnell’s birthday which falls on 1st April. A big thanks to Maureen Henry’s daughter who made a fabulous Easter cake. Also, a big thanks to Sr Breege who handmade an Easter Egg gift bag for everyone who attended the celebrations. Claddagh Choral Concert
Claddagh Choral presented it’s Live From Galway Spring Gala in Christ the King Church on Thursday night at 7pm, 30th March. The concert featured six exciting ensembles under the Claddagh Choral umbrella comprising 140 people from different age groups. Over a 100 people were in attendance. A fantastic night was had by all. Well done to Stephen Carroll who organised this talented musical event.

Afternoon Tea
Galway Bay Hotel restaurant was the setting for an Afternoon Tea for our parishioners to celebrate the start of St Patrick’s Weekend. Nearly 40 people were in attendance. Music was provided by our local parish Irish Traditional Group. Sr Breege organised shamrock for everyone in the audience!! The afternoon tea comprised of tea/coffee, an array of different sandwiches followed by mini desserts. A great time was had by all. Thanks to everyone in the Galway Bay Hotel who looked after us so well.

A Fallen Soldier
On Tuesday 7th March, a Mass at 10:00am was said by Fr. Gerry for the repose of the soul of Mikchaylo Abankanovich, who was a soldier in the Ukraine Army. He was killed in action last month. His wife, Viktoriia, lives in our parish. It was great to see so many parishioners supporting her during her grief and loss.

Happy Birthday Betty
Betty Staunton was 85 years young today. All her friends at the Friday Luncheon club including volunteers celebrated her birthday with her. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to her and wished her a great day. Best wishes Betty from all in the parish.

Day Trip to Dublin
We had a fantastic day trip to Dublin. 32 parishioners went on the train to Dublin, had lunch in The Aisling Hotel where we were royally entertained by one of the waitresses, Julie Ann, with songs and poetry. Premier Coaches took us to An Bord Gais Theatre where we enjoyed the Blood Brothers musical led out by Rebecca Storm and then caught the train home to Galway. Thanks to the Parish Office and Mary Caulfield for organising the trip.

St Brigid’s Day
The Men’s Shed making St Brigid Day’s crosses for the parish on 30th Jan 2023 in Galilee House and some of our parishioners learning how to make the crosses in the Conference Room on 31st Jan 2023. A great morning had by all and a new skill learned! Thanks to Sr Breege for organising this and to the Men’s Shed especially Sean and Martin and Kathleen for passing on the skill.

Friday Luncheon Club – Christmas Lunch
Our Friday Luncheon Club enjoyed their Christmas Lunch in Galilee House. Santa Claus joined us bringing loads of gifts. Thanks to Maureen’s daughter who made the fabulous cake and to all the great volunteers who helped during the day as well as all those who helped throughout the year.

Ukrainian Appeal
Photos from the fundraising appeal undertaken by our Ukrainian friends who showcased their patchwork fashion and jewellery items made from materials provided by our parishioners. All funds raised going to the Zelenska Foundation to assist Ukrainian families in Ukraine.
